Talking Tees Valley: Victorian Medicine

10 February 2021

Talking Tees Valley is a monthly activity pack that uses the museum and art collections in the Tees Valley museums to encourage discussions and conversations for people living with dementia.

This month we visit the Victorian Chemist in Preston Park Museum to see what kinds of illnesses they were treating and what they were selling over the counter.

You can visit a recreation of a Victorian Chemist at Preston Park Museum. Visit their website here to find out up to date information regarding changes to opening times and booking processes due to the current pandemic.

This activity pack contains images, discussion points and activities for you to enjoy.

Advert for Mrs Winslow's Soothing Syrup

A colour advert for Mrs Winslow’s Soothing Syrup – For Children Teething. This hand drawn and coloured advert features a lady in a red velvet-looking dress, looking lovingly at a baby she is holding in her arms. The baby is wearing a white cloth nappy and has a shawl draped from its shoulders. They are standing in front of a wall inside a house with green wallpaper on the top half and wooden panelling on the bottom half. In the top right hand corner you can see part of a picture with a thick, decorated golden frame.
