This is a marble bust of Ralph Ward Jackson held by the Museum of Hartlepool and Hartlepool Art Gallery. In many of the busts and paintings of him he looks serious, to show he was an important businessman in the town of Hartlepool.

Facial expressions

Here is another painting of Ralph Ward Jackson looking serious.

Look in the mirror. What does your face look like when you are sad, angry, happy, pull a funny face? Notice how your eyes, eyebrows and lips change.

Can you take photos of these different expressions, match them to emojis or create a video. Can your family guess what emotions you are trying to portray?

Use this template and have a go at drawing different emotions. Here are some ideas to help.

Could you replace a face in a well known picture with a different emotion?
