Hartlepool Art Gallery

Hartlepool Art Gallery is in Church Square in a Victorian church. It is a 3 minute walk from Middleton Grange shopping centre.

Hartlepool train station is a 3 minute walk.

Many local bus services operate from Victoria Road which is a five minute walk from Hartlepool Art Gallery.

The Gallery does not have its own car park, however there are three designated accessible parking bays within the Northern School of Art car park, opposite the gallery.

There is also a carpark at the transport interchange and on-street parking around the gallery.

The entrance to the gallery is from a pedestrianised area with level access through to two sets of double doors with a push button on the left hand side.

You enter into the gallery shop with the reception desk to the right hand side.

The gallery has free entry however there is a charge to visit the tower. There is a concession for disabled people and their companions.

The majority of the gallery is on one level.

There is a spiral staircase to a small mezzanine floor, leading to another staircase up the tower. There is no lift on site.

Please be aware that this is a large open space.

Lightweight walk and rest stools are available.

There are two accessible toilets, one in the café area, and the other within the male toilets.

Neither toilets are RADAR key operated.

There is currently no Changing Place facility on site, the closest facility is:

  • Marina Way, Jackson Dock, Hartlepool, TS24 0XZ
  • Please see Changing Places for further information about these facilities.

There is a baby change facility within the male and female toilets.

Mums are welcome to breastfeed in the gallery, wherever they are comfortable. Please let a member of staff know if you would like a glass of water or if there is anything we can do to help make you more comfortable. A nursing pillow is available on request.

    Assistance dogs are welcome.

There is a hearing loop at the reception desk.

A wheelchair is available to borrow during your visit. Please speak to a member of staff.

Relaxed sessions are available for anybody who would benefit from a visit during a quieter time. Additional noises will be reduced, lighting levels more consistent and additional smells reduced.

These take place at various times throughout the year. Further information can be found on Facebook @hartlepoolartgallery and Twitter @HPoolArtGallery

If you need a quiet space during your visit please speak to a member of staff who will try and find you somewhere.

If you find it difficult to visit during the relaxed sessions then we have identified the following times when the gallery is usually quieter with fewer visitors:
Tuesday to Saturday 4pm to 5pm

This is not a dedicated relaxed session and we cannot guarantee the low level of visitors.

Tours can be arranged in advance for groups.

The café is at the far end of the gallery selling hot and cold drinks, snacks and light meals.

There are no picnic facilities on site however the area outside the gallery is pedestrianised and has seating.
